These thirsty knit towels knit in CotlinDK are approximately 15" by 29". I consider this “casual” knitting. That is, the size may not be exact and they are a bit stretchy, like a knit terry towel but very functional. The towels, knit on a base fabric of garter stitch, are very thick, lay flat, and fold and drape nicely. The surface design is a traveling stitch. The inspiration for the design came from watching waves come ashore on the beach in Puerto Rico. The designs for the wave patterns are adapted from Twisted-Stitch Knitting: Traditional Patterns and Garments from the Styrian Enns Valley by Maria Erlbacher. The traveling stitch patterns on the towels are simplified versions of the elaborate patterns from this book. The traveling stitch patterns are charted and written out. Instructions for traveling the stitches are given using a cable needle. But, also included is a tutorial on how to travel the stitches without a cable needle. Experience level for this project is intermediate.
