These mitts bring to mind the period clothing of Jane Austen films. I can picture Jane herself wearing these to keep her hands warm in the wintertime as she wrote one of her world-famous novels. The lacy design is easy to knit, and works up fairly quickly. Instead of using waste yarn and picking up stitches for a thumbhole, the mitt is simply worked back and forth in rows for several repeats, and then rejoined into the round.
