Referencing a nomadic Turkic tribe that is now found in parts of Iran, Syria and Turkey – rugs made by the Afshari are quite diverse. Although many different methods and designs are used for these rugs, there are key elements that tie all Afshari rugs together. The use of mostly red or blue coloring and well as horizontal bands that display intricate motifs are traditional characteristics of Afshari textiles. The Afshari socks draw from these distinctive, traditional elements by focusing a variety of intricate stitch patterns into horizontal strips that layer on top of one another throughout the cuff. A rich, tonal navy colorway complements both the detailed bands of texture as well as the simple stockinette stitch that is used for the foot of the sock.
