Options Interchangeable Rainbow Wood Circular Knitting Needle Tips

$5.99 - $10.49

Of course the waves of color are what first catch your eye. But, the beauty is more than skin deep. The layers of laminated birch give the needles a strength that is missing in regular wooden needles. The stability allowed us to shape sharp points- particularly nice for lace knitting. It also made small sizes more durable and resistant to breakage. Being wood, the burnished surface has a slight grip so slick yarns like mohair and angora don’t slip off at the wrong time. This quality also makes them an excellent choice for beginning knitters, who often have trouble keeping stitches on the needles. Available in US sizes 4-17. Set of two. Needle length is 4 3/4".

Interchangeable cables are available in 24", 32", 40", 47" and 60" lengths. The Options Rainbow Wood Interchangeable Needle Set includes sizes US 4 (3.50mm) through US 11 (8.00mm) plus two each of the 24" and 32" cables in a handy zippered clear case with pockets for needle tip storage. “Can needles be called sensual? Absolutely, yes. Harmony Wood Knitting Needles look and feel as great as they look… You may love them at first for their striking appearance (oh the colors!) but Harmony Wood Needles are very practical. Laminated birch makes them strong and stable. The stability allows for sharp points, particularly nice for lace knitting…” Knit ‘N Style, June 2008.

“It is interesting that the idea for these beautiful multicolored needles came from gourmet kitchen utensils. The layers of laminated birch give these needles a strength that is missing in regular wooden needles…Time was spent testing these needles with real knitters who were especially enthusiastic and thrilled to keep the needles.” Creative Knitting, March 2008

“The newest addition to the Knit Picks Options line of interchangeable circular needles is this collection of laminated birch tips. These Harmony needles are ultra smooth and extra strong due to the many layers of wood that make up the tips…” Knit Scene, Winter 07/Spring 08

“Function and beauty combine in these colorful birch needles by Knit Picks. Lamination adds strength to wood and make it possible to create sharp points perfect for lace and fine knitting for the Harmony Wood Needles.” XRX Knitter’s, Winter 2007

“These needles are close to perfect. Good points even for lace knitting. The gorgeous coloring makes it easy to see even the finest yarn with no glare…” Planet Purl, March 2008

These needles are made of laminated birch. The tip, as with the metal Options Interchangeables, is enjoyably pointy. The shaft of every needle in the kit is smooth and inviting in ways I usually see only on handmade wood knitting tools. They feel hand polished. The needles are light and the join is nearly invisible to my fingers. I am gobsmacked. These things are incredible.” Knitty, Fall 2007

“Laminated birch needles are beautiful, light and strong, with a sharper point and more durability…These needles also have sharper points than most wooden needles, making them a good choice for lace knitting and other work that requires precision.” www.About.com, March 2009

"I just received my new Harmony Wood Needle tips and cables. I had read on several sites how nice these needles were.  They didn't exaggerate at all. I have used aluminum, plastic and bamboo needles.  Until today,  I always preferred the bamboo needles.  Today, I am a convert to Harmony Wood needles.  The wood feels fabulous to hold.  The yarn moves along easily.  And they are so lovely and colorful.  I can't wait to replace my others with more Harmony. I am already 1/2 way finished with a new hat since opening the package. Thank you for a great product" Cheryl L., Knit Picks Customer

“In my knitting needles I look for special qualities, they have to lie smoothly in my hands like the Harmony woods from Knitpicks do, because they are made of a natural material. They are made of wood, of layers of birch, and that means that you have a living material in your hand which bends with your movements slightly and that’s very good, in my opinion. The second very important thing is that the Knit Picks Harmony Wood needles have such sharp points, long points, which make speed knitting much easier.” Miriam Tegels, World’s Fastest Knitter

“I LOVE the harmony needles. They are so smooth, sharp, and warm feeling. Metal needles make my hands hurt (because of arthritis), but the wood stays warm, and I can knit for hours with them. And they are much slicker than the bamboo ones I have tried.” Lisa B., Knit Picks customer

I just read 2 recent reviews and after using the Harmony/Rainbow tips and cables for as long as they have been available, I have to say that I have had little trouble. If there is a problem, Knit Picks will replace immediately, no questions asked. I am embarrassed to say that I have all needle and cable sizes. Many duplicates in fact. I also have many of the fixed cable needles as well. Occasionally, my needle loosens up, but with a quick tightening using the key provided I am back knitting. I will also mention that with arthritis in my hands these needles are more comfortable to use. Thank you Knit Picks for these wonderful needles. I have just ordered 2 Caspian needles to try.

My daughter gave me a set of Harmony interchangeable needles last Christmas. I waited until I used them enough to give a review. I love them! I don't use anything else now. I haven't had any problems with them. I now have lots of cables and cable connectors. They are a great product that I would recommend to everyone.

Excellent, but with the same reservation as Heidi who wrote the review just before mine. I love using the needles, the cable is great in that it does not twist and have a life of its own, but the needles do come away from the metal base and it does unscrew from the cable. For some reason, one of the needles does this and the other one is just fine.

I got a size 8 (5.0mm) set of these tips for Christmas. The gifter did not realize these were meant to be attached to something. They were so gorgeous, I didn't even care. I ordered a 40" and a 60" purple cable for them the very next day and started searching for all the patterns I could find that use size 8 needles. I made two-at-a-time socks with them, and although they constantly started unscrewing from the cables, I absolutely loved knitting with the needles themselves. I overlooked this flaw and made it a habit to tighten them every time one became free from my knitting. Now I am making a hat with a light worsted weight yarn. Now not only am I forever tightening my tips, the wood part of te needle is detaching from the metal base. If I push the wood part down into the metal part, I hear a little 'click' and it stops for a few rows. I am so disappointed, because the tips really are SO POINTY and they are a dream to knit with, until the unscrewing and detaching happens. Because I am a fan of magic looping, I may just locktite the screw parts, but the detachment has me worried that these may not last as long as I had hoped.

I started out using bamboo non-interchangeable sets and tried these and WOW was I happy! I won't use anything else but these and have just ordered the Caspian in sizes I need so I'll be able to change with my mood. :D Some day, I'll probably have both sets and will have spent more than they cost per set. lol Still, happy as a clam with these, and more than worth it!

I tried a sampler pack of interchangeable needles containing the nickel plated, lucite, and these Rainbow birch needles. The Rainbow Wood needle won hands down. Light weight, slightly pointed and had enough surface resistance to hold onto any slippery yarn I was using. I am now looking for interchangeable sizes in Rainbow below a US 4. Is there a reason they are not available?

I love my Knit Picks Rainbow interchangeable needles. But I do have one complaint. I have purchased 4 different needle tips since December 2013 and the wooden part has separated from the metal piece on 3 of the pair. This seems to be a flaw in this item.

These needles are fabulous and beautiful. I got them to try my hand at lacier knitting where a definite point comes in handy. I got the circular set, the larger straight needles (13 & 15) and the points for circ. in 13 & 15. Being use to bamboo, these feel like knitting with silk, yet they have just enough grip that there is no problem dropping stitches (at least so far). What a treat to knit with both because of the superb quality and the beauty of the wood stain. Thank you, Knit Picks!! Nothing like having the right tools for the job!

I have purchased several needles over the years and am now in the process of replacing the cheap ones I've purchased with these great interchangeable ones. I love, love, love these! I use them for just about all of my knitting. I have the zephyr, metal, and the beautiful wooden ones and cannot wait until I have the complete set. Highly recommended.

Bought the set of Harmony needles and am extremely glad I did. I've just come back to knitting and these needles have great points and are easy to handle. Love them!

Every time I've gone to one of the LYS in my city, employees have always advised against interchangeable needles because they come apart, but getting multiple individual circular needles just didn't make sense to me. I've used Knitpicks Harmony interchangeable needles for some time and I LOVE them. They have never come apart. Quality interchangeables are the only way to go!
