Thank you for your interest in the Knit Picks Independent Designer Partnership program!

Submission Requirements
Knit Picks is looking for well written, professional pattern submissions. We do not accept patterns that are very similar to another pattern being offered on our site or any other. We are looking for patterns in Knit Picks yarn that are fashion forward, interesting, and unique. Please note that we will only accept patterns that are shown in Knit Picks yarns.

Your one-page submission must include the following information:

  • Clear photograph of the project or a swatch of the design.
  • Detailed description of the idea or project
  • Yarn the project will be (or is already) knit in
  • Your name, address, email, and phone number
  • Clearly state if you need yarn support. Please list the specific yarn weight, color, and yardage needed.
  • Pattern selling price ($1.99, $2.99, $3.99, $4.99, $5.99, $6.99, or $7.99)
  • Optional information: a mini biography, Ravelry id, website, and blog.

Acceptance of patterns to the IDP program is decided by our Review Board, which includes members of the Knit Picks art, marketing, and yarn teams. The Review Board will most likely only see your one-page submission, so be sure to send a professional and easy-to-understand PDF document. An example of the type of submission we require can be found here: One Page Submission Example.

Submitting your Proposal

  • If you are new to the IDP program, upload your pattern proposals using our Pattern Proposal Portal.
  • If you have already published patterns in our IDP Program, please submit your proposals by logging into your Vendor Portal.
  • We do not accept complete patterns as a pattern proposal. You MUST send a one-page proposal for consideration to the IDP Program.
  • You are welcome to submit proposals for previously published patterns, such as those for sale on Ravelry, Etsy, and your website, provided you are the sole owner of the design.
  • You may also submit proposals for patterns that were previously submitted to other publications/websites but not accepted, provided there is not exclusivity agreement with the publisher and are the sole owner of the design.

Acceptance to the IDP Program
You should receive an email confirming that we received your initial submission within a week.  Due to large number of submissions we receive, the response time for acceptance or denial of your patterns could be up to 6-8 weeks, though most responses are within 30 days

We are looking for a wide range of knitting and crochet patterns - from garments and accessories to home decor and toys. Due to the high volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to accept all proposals. Reasons your pattern may not be accepted to the IDP Program include (but are not limited to):

  • Often the reason is that we simply have too many patterns in the same category of projects or yarn type/weight.
  • Sometimes we feel the pattern will not work well with the yarn suggested or will not represent our yarn well.
  • We take seasonality and the buying habits of our customers into consideration.
  • If a proposal does not meet all of our submission requirements, it will not be accepted.

IDP Pattern Requirements
Once a design has been initially accepted to the IDP program, you will need to prepare your design for final submission. Detailed requirements regarding patterns, formatting, photography, and finished samples can be found HERE.
