After writing Knitting New Scarves, Lynne Barr continues to stretch the possibilities of knitting in her next book, Reversible Knitting. This book contains a stitch dictionary of reversible stitch patterns, as well as patterns for scarves, vests, dresses, sweaters, hats, and bags that are also reversible, either by wearing the garment in another direction or inside out.
Lynne Barr invented 50 different stitch patterns for her stitch dictionary. She divides the stitch patterns into categories, faux crochet, rows within rows, openwork, divide and combine, picked up, and double knit. These stitch patterns are really unique, with three dimensional folds, lace with lots of negative space, and faux crochet where she tries to push the directions of knitting.
The reversible designs in this book were contributed by Lynne Barr herself, Cat Bordhi, Teva Durham, Debbie New, Norah Gaughan, and Veronik Avery, among others. I particularly like the knitted dresses in this book. Teva Durham's Geometric Dress uses a graphic reversible slip stitch pattern in a design which resembles a mod shift dress from the 1960s. If you turn the dress inside out, there is a new pattern on the inside! Lynn Barr's Folded Mini Dress can be worn backwards and also inside out. It is a jumper dress with a v neck, vertical ribbing on the waist, and a folded stitch pattern across the skirt which resembles ruffles. The patterns in this book combine high fashion with structural beauty 20 patterns192 pages | Hardcover Retail: $29.95 Item No. 31268

"The garments in this book are all designed to be reversible; you can wear them frontwards, backwards, upside down, and inside out! This book pushes knitting in new directions. There is also a stitch dictionary with 50 brand new reversible stitch patterns invented by Lynne Barr." Kate Perry, Marketing Assistant
