In Knitted and Felted Children’s Clothes, Zoe Halstead has designed a collection of adorable and imaginative children’s garments. There are 22 designs in this book, which include tops, hats, scarves, and bags for boys and girls. Several of the patterns are felted, which is a great idea for children’s patterns because it creates a durable warm fabric, and most patterns are sized to fit a 2 to 6 year old, so the garment is still relatively small before you shrink it.
There are patterns designed for every day wear (or dressier occasions, since they are so cute) as well as patterns designed for make believe and costumes. My favorite every day garments are Sweetie and the Perfect Pea Coat. Sweetie is a felted cardigan sweater with multi colored bobbles that look like polka dots. The perfect peacoat is a classic double breasted peacoat design with details like pockets and buttoned trim. It would make a wonderful winter coat! My favorite costume garments are the Jurassic Jacket and the Pirate Hat. The Jurassic Jacket is a felted hooded sweater with a zipper up the front and dinosaur spikes going down the spine.
