I'm not happy with Luminance Lace at all. The yarn looks and feels wonderful in the hank and while I had no real trouble winding it with a swift and ball winder, it was terrible to knit up. The yarn fuzzed and split and just looked terrible. I was doing the In Perfect Harmony pattern and mine didn't look anything like the picture in the book. I wound up ripping it off my needles and throwing the lot away. Now I'm stuck with 6 other hanks I'd ordered and know I probably won't use.

The yarn is a luxury at its best. If this tip can help, here it goes: I use it in combination with a thicker yarn. It gives the silk shine and pearls or beads can be inserted, something that can't be done with a thicker yarn.

Beautiful yarn, very soft feeling, easy to crochet. I always wind skeins into balls of yarn by hand, and found this to be very easy to wind. I ordered just two colours (innocence and grace) for my project, and they are lovely. I would be very happy to see this yarn offered in a bigger range of colours.

I bought the value pack when this yarn came out. The catalog showed many wonderful colors, and when I went to order, I decided on the value pack. Good idea. When the box arrived, I pulled out the invoice to check off the yarn. I had also ordered Alpaca Cloud Lace since it was my favorite for softness. I reached in the box and pulled a skein out, immediately assuming due to its softness that it was Alpaca Cloud. As I held it in my hand, I thought, I did not order Alpaca Cloud in this color. I was stunned that silk could feel this soft. I assembled the Luminance skeins and immediately started thinking about gradient shawls, and contrast border shawls. The colors are vibrant, the feel is incredible. For about 3 seconds I felt like a bad mother for neglecting the Alpaca Cloud, but I just put the name of the pattern I planned to use in the bag with the Alpaca Cloud, and tossed them on a shelf. And went back to playing with the Luminance colors. I have a new favorite yarn and Alpaca Cloud has moved to #2.

I have used the bare, benevolence, and zen colorways. All very nice. I find that (much like working with lace hanks) it is best to keep the skin on your hands as smooth as possible to reduce picking this yarn. I also wound this yarn onto a cone form for use rather than into a ball. This worked well for me. The zen color looks like spun gold. I don't often go back to the same color for multiple projects, but this shade of gold with this sheen is quite remarkable. As this is a lace-weight, the yardage is quite good and a moderate size shawl can be made with one skein. It blocks out well, but does bleed in first wash (so pre-wash if using for high contrast colorwork).

Thought this yarn was gorgeous when I received my order. Working with it however, was a diffferent story. It split very easy leaving a fuzzy area where the split was. I was making a lace shawl with beads and it spilt attaching most of the beads. Haven't blocked it yet but hopefully the fuzziness goes away with that

Beautiful yarn, but it took me two and half hours to wind the unholy knot this came in into a ball. They'll need to sell this pre-balled for me to ever buy it again. I've only got one of two hanks wound and I'm not looking forward to the second.

I just love, Love, LOVE Luminance Lace! I've had no problems winding it onto balls, as others have done, maybe because I use a t-p tube, covered with tissue paper, over my ball winder stem (fits perfectly), and tape the leading edge of the yarn inside the tube before I slip it onto the stem, or arm, of the ball winder. That way, there's no struggling to remove a ball of slippery yarn! I second what others have said, beseeching you to NEVER quit carrying this wonderful yarn. I seldom use it alone, but in tandem with at least two other yarns (one is almost always 'Aloft') to knit scarves and hats that are just fascinating, with incredible feel and color play. My only plea, and it is a heartfelt one, would be to carry it in more colors. A true, non-green gold (Zen is great, but limited), and a good black would be my first two wishes, and perhaps a dark gray and a lovely camel color. Thank you, from the bottom of my yarn stash, for carrying so many wonderful yarns at such reasonable prices. KnitPicks FOREVER!

Absolutely love this yarn !! Easy to wind. Beautiful to knit and crochet with. Gorgeous sheen. The only downside is that I wish that it came in the three main colours of Black, white, and cream, also please expand on more shades this yarn is truly a dream. PS would love to see this in a fingering weight too =))

I just got this yarn and omg so gorgeous...I did unwind one hank (Balance) and it unwound beautifully but when I did try to remake the ball using the ball winder, it was a bit difficult, but other than that, it is glorious colors and textures, I cannot wait to start my project with it. Well worth it.

I've rated this yarn fair as I've had some frustrations knitting it up and the pattern does not show off the beautiful colour. The yarn is deliciously soft and the colour is stunning. I've never used such fine yarn to knit anything and am finding it slips through my fingers and I'm struggling with maintaining a proper tension. I would love to have a sweater made from this yarn but I'd be knitting for the next 10 years. Is there a thicker silk yarn I should be looking at? Using a lace pattern for this yarn does not do the colour justice, it's too fine to use for any other projects though.

I cannot fully express how much I love this yarn, but I will try! I bought two hanks of Zen some time ago and have recently started crocheting a wrap. Firstly, while I've had disastrous experiences balling up hanks in the past, this silk yarn unwound without any drama. Secondly, it's heavenly to the touch and is possibly the most interesting yarn I've ever seen given it's myriad of colour changes depending on the light. And thirdly, the price! For well under AU$50 I will get a gorgeous wrap that will measure almost 200cm. I can highly recommend Luminance Lace! Please don't even stop selling this, Knit Picks.

The yarn is beautiful.....very soft and the color is great, but it tangled so much while winding. I wish it was sold in a ball......the hank was impossible to wind without cutting.

Holy crap. This yarn. I ordered Powerful and it is so bright! It's a true hot pick and it's astounding. And it's so soft! I have worn the skein as a necklace everyday since my order came it; it feels amazing against my skin. I have finally picked a crochet stitch I want to do with it and I am going to make a cowl because this has to touch my skin. I have honestly considered just buying skeins of this, replacing the thread that holds it in a nice skein with a beaded thread and just giving it as Christmas presents just like that. I might by myself more just to do that with. It feels so good just like it comes in the mail. The only issue is that this silk does fuzz a bit, not maintaining a smooth strand, so I can imagine it's going to split and be a bit of a pain to work with. But I can't bring myself to not give it 5 stars even with that consideration because everything else about this silk is phenomenal.

This is really luscious to work with. You have to be careful as it can split easily, but it is well worth the effort. The sheen is beautiful and I just keep finding more things I want to knit with it. I think I've added a few skeins to every order! I haven't had any problems with knots or tangles.

I am being extra cautious in knitting with this yarn--I've had one small knot which came out easily, but after some of the comments I am being super careful. I had not trouble winding it, but I wound it slowly with my ball winder and swift. I have wound about a dozen balls and have had no trouble or large tangles. The feel is absolutely wonderful! So so soft and luxurious. I am making a shawl and can't wait to wear it and show it off.

I also love the colors and the yarn in general. The first balls I wound did tangle badly when I pulled from the middle, so this time I'm knitting from the outside first. Working much better, and I hope if I get to any knotted spots I can untangle as I go.

I had no trouble winding mine with a ball winder and swift. I love the deep jewel tones. I'm ordering more because I've found that I didn't order enough the first time (scared of the price), but I think it will be well worth it. All I can say is Wow. The colors and feel are luscious

When I opened my parcel, my reaction was WOW! The colour (innocence) was everything, I had hoped for and the sheen, lovely. But I found winding the yarn SO DIFFICULT! My suggestion, why not sell it as balls, instead of skeins.

5 out of 5 stars

I have to say this is a very luxurious yarn. I wound my hank as soon as I received it as I couldn't wait to start swatching. Made a stockeinette swatch with size 6 needles and the fabric is soft and flowing. Thinking about making a silk short sleeve T. Using very pointy wood needles the yarn is a dream to knit with. There is a slight halo to the yarn, and the blue (balance) I ordered is gorgeous.

So, I have to admit, I haven't knitted it upyet, but I did want to write this review to say how wonderfully soft this yarn is! I ordered it on a whim to make a gift for my mother, and I was somewhat apprehensive, because I think silk often feels a bit rough. This is incredibly soft in the skein, and has a wonderful sheen. Can't wait to get started with it!

I just received this yarn in the Balance colorway. I ordered it for a Doctor Who themed knitting project. It is the PERFECT shade of royal blue. And the sheen on this yarn is just gorgeous! I can't wait to knit this project up!

This yarn is gorgeous! So shiny, so soft, I cannot wait to make it up, I just keep changing my mind about the pattern, maybe I need some more..

This yarn is sublime. I opened my parcel, and the gleam was so satisfying. The jewel tones are deep and rich, the pastels are perfect, and the yarn is incredibly soft. I've not yet wound or knit a skein (just arrived today), but my initial impression is WOW. Ordering more.

I just got my order of Luminance today and wanted to use it immediately. The yarn is beautiful, soft and shimmery. But be VERY careful winding it! I used a swift and ball winder and ended up pulling out a knotted mess when I tried knitting. I am now winding it by hand, hoping to be able to unknot it and save the full skein. I will probably wind the other three skeins by hand and not use the ball winder! Lovely yarn though!
