The Color Harmony Cap helps answer the most common colorwork questions such as “How do I know what colors go together?” and “How do I work with more than one color?” These questions are the inspiration for the Color Harmony Cap. The answer provided by the hat is that any colors can be put together as long as there is balance, or harmony. First begin with the main colors, then add a border of two different colors and finally, go back to the main colors. This scheme brings balance by beginning and ending with the same colors. It unites the design and gives the effect of many colors, but never with more than two colors in any one round.

Many knitters go to stripes as way to add another color to a simple hat but ultimately, are frustrated by dealing with the dreaded “jog” at the join. This cap avoids this issue by never having straight lines of colors up against each other. There are also no long “floats” to deal with so the knitter feels the accomplishment of color work without the fear!

Worked in the round in worsted weight yarn and never with more than two colors in any given round, this is a perfect “first colorwork” project. Try this pattern and you may find that with each round, trepidation turns into confidence, and confidence into pride and joy.
