My quick baby blanket project is finished!
I saw a cluster of a few pastel shades of Simply Cotton Sport together in the office and thought they'd make a great baby blanket. My first crochet attempt is one of my favorite blankets on our couch, so I decided to use the same basic oversized granny square but change up the colors and stripe sequence.
My favorite part of this blanket was the edging. I crocheted until I hit about 40" square, then decided to be finished. There's no binding off! I just went to the end of my round, made a slip stitch joining the border together, and it was done. Magical!
Pattern: None, just a basic granny square (Ravelry link)
Finished size: 40" square
Yarn: Simply Cotton Sport, four skeins Camel Heather, one skein each Wave Heather, Dogwood Heather, Haze Heather, Golden Heather, and Green Tea Heather.
Hook: Size G (4.0mm)

Jul 28, 2010 at 11:45 AM Thx, Susan! I have used the Pima mixture, which I like. I am not too crazy about the CotLin; it is very dense and not at all soft. But it is true that the KP cotton blends are much softer than other manufacturers.
Jul 27, 2010 at 12:13 PM maegan, It has been my experience that the KP cottons -all of them - are extremely soft and do not have that rough texture that other cotton yarns have... I've used all of the Comfy products and the Shine products - and have always been satisfied with the quality of the yarn.
Jul 27, 2010 at 11:43 AM Thanks, Alison. I do like the comfy fingering, as well, so maybe it is similar to that.
Jul 27, 2010 at 8:41 AM Thanks everybody! Maegan, I love how the Simply Cotton feels crocheted at this gauge, it's butter-soft and really drapey. I don't think it's as soft as our superwash Merino Swish, but I think Swish is probably the softest yarn we carry so it's kind of set a high standard. :)
Jul 27, 2010 at 8:34 AM I love this pattern! I am planning on purchasing some of this yarn & was wondering if it is soft. I typically do not like cotton yarn because of its roughness, so I usually go for superwash merinos. Can you advise how this compares? Thx!
