My Providence Hoodie

So before I start my Christmas knitting in earnest, I had to finish one thing up for myself:

This is my version of the Providence Hoodie from the book New England Knits!  I seem to be on a quest to make every single pattern from the book - this is my third sweater & fourth project overall.  I finished this project up just in time for the cold weather & have been wearing it every day!

Last year when we released the (then) new colors of Wool of the Andes, I was absolutely in love with Aurora Heather - green is my favorite color & I love how this color came out, with very dark green (nearly black) to a medium green.  I immediately knew I wanted to make a sweater out of it. (I can also neither confirm nor deny that this particular color showing up in different yarn lines is because I wouldn't stop talking about it in our color meetings.)

I love cables & I love hoodies, so the Providence Hoodie was a perfect pattern for this. However, the hood isn't very big, so it's more for looks only, which is sad. (considering how much it rains here, we all love our hoodies.)  I do love how the cables look though!

Biggest modification I made was to do the body in stockinette stitch rather than moss stitch.  I just knew I'd never finish it if I tried to do an all over pattern.  I also lengthened the body & sleeves - I'm pretty tall with long arms so I generally add a few inches to all my sweaters.

The buttons came from my LYS Twisted. I think they add a neat little steampunkish look to my sweater. They're a little heavy but I think I'm going to reinforce the button band so it doesn't sag as much.

Also, Jenny K. took these gorgeous photos for me - thanks Jenny!

So now that my fall sweater is done, it's time to work on Christmas gifts!  I have a lot planned out - mainly small projects for my nieces & nephews but a couple of larger ones too!  I'm hoping I can get them all done in time!

That's looks great! I love the color a lot! I never would have picked it out for myself, but now that I have seen it knit up I love it! I may just have to buy it :)

Gorgeous! I love that color. It looks very different in the pictures of the sweater than in the color swatch. Here it looks more like what I think of as a forest green (which is more bluey than the yarn called "forest heather") and the color swatch has some olivey tones. That's the tough thing about shopping for yarn online, eh? You might think about adding this color to Swish DK. My son would look great in it, but I prefer washable for baby/kid things. I agree that having the bulk of the body plain stockinette works. Too bad the hood isn't deep enough. The pattern on it is certainly beautiful. I look for a hood that's deep enough to keep the rain off my glasses, since wet glasses, for me, is the most annoying thing about wandering around outside in Pacific Northwest drizzle.

Stacey, that looks great, and looks great on you! I love the color, and the buttons, and everything about it. Good call on the moss stitch. That would have taken for.ev.er. Well done!
