Aloft! Oh, just wait until you see what I have in mind!

I love the Belinda Shawl from Kay Gardiner & Ann Shayne's second book, Mason-Dixon Knitting Ourtside the Lines.  It is incredibly simple in design but the result will be so elegant.

When we received our samples of Aloft, we all started thinking about what we would like to knit with the gossamer soft strands of super kid mohair and silk. Watching the two open-work layers of the Belinda shawl move past each other would be mesmorizing but add in the glint of silk and the warm softness of the mohair and I think this will be a delight to knit and wear.

Look at the colors I've chosen.

Tarragon was a no brainer since it is the sort of warm green I enjoy wearing. I put several second color options next to it but it wasn't until I held up the Eggplant that I knew I had found my combination. All I need to do is grab a pair of Harmony needle tips and a 32" cable. The sharp point will make it easy to work with the fine yarn.

Absolutely love this yarn and already have several patterns picked out for it. Osne I'm anxious to get started on is the "Ruffles, Ruffles, Ruffles" Scarf by Melissa Matthay. More colors, please!

The colors are very lovely together. I just received an order with 5 balls of silver. I am hoping to knit Alice Tang's En Pointe Pullover. *crossing fingers*
  3. Maggie Says:
Those colors are quite lovely but remind me of Barney the Dinosaur. I know, I know...
  4. Mary Says:
    Thanks so much Kelley! :-)
  5. Kelley Petkun Says:
Hi Mary, I ordered 3 balls of each color. I probably could have gotten away with 3 balls but I am paranoid so I went for the extra ball.

Hi Teish, I was also wondering about the cardigan. It would be perfect in Aloft but I am obsessed with the idea of two working together in the shawl.
  7. Kat Says:
I love how the shawl looks like ginham! (Plus, fashion seems to be having a ginham moment right now ... so you'll be working that trend in an interesting way)
  8. Carla Ward Says:
Years ago I knit the "Rose of England" tablecloth as a shawl. I used a competitor's mohair/silk blend. Oh, how I wish Aloft had been available then (about 10 yrs ago). The price for 12 skeins was over $120! by the way, the silk in the yarn will make it easier to rip out (if you need to) than standard mohair. And the feel should be WONDERFUL.
  9. Ann Devine Says:
Now just get a huge color range like a certain unamed *coughRowancough* manufacturer, and you'll have folks going nuts for mohair-silk! Seriously, I'm going to have to put an addition on the house now - THANKS A LOT, guys!
  10. Mary Says:
How much of each yarn in Aloft is required to make this shawl? (for us considering ordering both the yarn & book :-)
  11. Beth Says:

One of my favorite knitting books. I am so happy that you now offer this blend of yarn. There are so many patterns I have wanted to make with yarn like this but couldn't find an affordable option. Now I have an exuse to go through Ravelry and all my knitting books and magazines looking for the perfect project that I had to pass by at first. Thanks Knit Picks!!
  16. Peggy Stuart Says:
That's similar to the shawl I'm working on: Highland Mist from Carol Rasmussen Noble's "Everyday Style Classic Knits for Women." I'm using some baby alpaca I spun during the Ravelympics, but Aloft would be perfect!
  17. Julie Says:
