"Double Knitting? Isn't that a yarn weight? But M'Lou Baber's book is referring to a technique where you use any weight of yarn to knit layers of fabric at the same time. This makes a very warm garment. You can also make very detailed pieces of fabric that don't involve intarsia.
M'Lou takes you through this technique slowly so you can build your confidence up. She starts with pot holder and headband patterns, and at the end, she introduces dramatic double knitted coats that are truly a piece of art. And everything in this book is reversible. Sometimes you will see the negative of the image with the colors reversed on the other time. But other patterns have you knit entirely different designs on each side. I really love the double knitted shawls. If you were to knit a shawl with a Fair Isle or intarsia pattern, you would have to sew a lining on the back side of your work to hide all of the unsightly yarn floats and ends. But with a double knitted shawl, both sides are beautiful." Kelley Petkun, Owner
