Nicky Epstein’s Knitting in Tuscany is a book of knitting patterns crossed with a travel guide. Nicky recounts her trip though Florence and Siena, where she knit the whole way! This unique book explores Italy’s yarn mills, recounts the history of knitting and textiles in this region, visits a cashmere farm, and suggests Italian yarn stores (or negozi di filati when you’re in Italy) for a vacation yarn crawl. Additionally, there are 15 knitting patterns inspired by Nicky’s travels in Tuscany. The patterns range from stuffed toys and home décor objects, to pillows and scarves, as well as women’s garments. These patterns employ techniques from Nicky’s other books, such as knitted edgings, shibouri felting, knitted embellishments, and lots of detail, color, and texture, but you can still see how these patterns are inspired by the Italian landscape, art, and culture.
