Sweater Body:
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 170 (194, 218) sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 1½”.
Next row (turn row): on right side, p 1 row. Change to larger needles.
Knit rows 1-31 of the color chart, then rep rows 14-24.
Next (RS) row: Begin working in Diamond Pattern as given above. Work until piece measures 13” (13½”, 14”) from turn row, ending with a WS row.

Sleeves:
With smaller needles and MC, CO 42 sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 1 ½”.

Shape Cap:
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next two rows, then 2 sts at beg of following two rows, then one stitch at beg and end of every RS row 7 times - 40 (40, 44) stitches.

Front Bands and Neckband:
With smaller needles and MC, pick up p102 (102, 108) sts along right front edge. Work rows 3-11 of color chart.

Braids and Leaves Sweater - 50442

Back:

*** With smaller needles, CO 145 (156, 167, 178, 189) stitches and work the Sugar Scallops. When you finish working the Sugar Scallops pattern you should have 93 (100, 107, 114, 121) stitches remaining.

Work 4 rows of K, for garter stitch. On 1st row, adjust number of stitches to 91 (99, 107, 115, 123). You will be setting-up to do the Leaf Pattern.

Continue working in pattern until back measures 27½” (28½”, 29½”, 30½”, 31½”). Work back neck as follows.

(On next right-side row, work 26 (30, 34, 37, 41) sts, place next 39 (39, 39, 41, 41) sts on holder to work for neck later. Attach another ball of yarn and work remaining 26 (30, 34, 37, 41) sts. Complete row. Working both sides at once, work 1 row even, decrease 1 st at each neck edge on next row. When work measures 28” (29”, 30”, 31”, 32”), place shoulder stitches on a holder or waste yarn. You should have 25 (29, 33, 36, 40) sts on hold for each shoulder.

Work front neck as follows:
On next right-side row, work 35 (38, 42, 45, 49) sts, place next 21 (23, 23, 25, 25) sts on holder to work for neck later. Attach another ball of yarn and work remaining 35 (38, 42, 45, 49) sts.
Working both sides at once, BO at each neck edge, 10 (9, 9, 9, 9) sts. Stitches remaining on each side should be 25 (29, 33, 36, 40).


Sleeves:

You will be increasing 1 st at each end of every 2 rows
0 (0, 0, 0, 5) times, then every 3rd row 8 (8, 20, 20, 30) times, then every 4 rows until you have 105 (105, 110, 110, 120) sts. While at the same time working the following:
Begin the Leaf Pattern, and knit 42 rows, ending with row 18 of Leaf Pattern.
Knit 4 rows.
Change to size 6 needles, and begin the Twisted Stitch pattern.
Continue knitting in pattern and increasing until you have the length desired.

BO all sts.


Note: M5 = (Knit into the front of the st, knit the back of the same st) twice, knit into the front of the same st.

Sugar Scallops:
Starting multiple: 11 sts + 2
Ending multiple: 7 sts +2

Use smaller needles.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K2 * K1, slip K st back to left needle, lift next 8 sts over this st and off the needle, double yo, K 1st st again, K2* repeat between *’s to end of row.
Row 3: K1* P2tog, drop 1st loop of the yo, (M5) in next yo loop, P1*. Repeat between *’s, end K1.

Use a different colored marker for the beginning of the round, to help keep track of when to start new rows of the chart. Knit next round, increasing 28 sts evenly around (252, 288, 324 sts).

Armpit shaping:

Next 5 rows: Continue in pattern, following main and steek charts, decreasing either edge of each steek as follows: Knit to 2 stitches before steek, k2tog tbl, work steek chart, k2tog. Work decrease stitch using color in main chart pattern (98, 116, 134 sts each side, plus 14 steek stitches).

Neck Steek:

Last row: Knit to 2 stitches before steek, knit next 2 tog tbl before binding off steek stitches, loosely cast off neck steek stitches, k2tog. Knit remaining stitches on front side of round. On the back side of this round knit 16 (25, 34) sts, bind off center 65 stitches for back neck by alternating between MC and CC. Knit remaining 17 (26, 35) sts. Block B1:
With last stitch of 4th block still on your needle, pick up 50 (60, 70, 80) sts, CO 50 (60, 70, 80) sts. You should have 101 (121, 141, 161) sts.

Sleeves:
K 1 row, P 1 row for Reverse Stockinette St. – 5 rows
Row 1 (RS): K1, M1, knit to last st, M1, K1. (Inc Row)
Row 2: P.
Row 3: K. Repeat rows 2 & 3 (for Stockinette St.) until 10 rows are completed. Work Increase Row (Row 1) for 10th row on knit side.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 with and Increase Row every 10th row on knit side
until sleeve measures 16”(17”, 18”, 19”) from CO row.
BO all sts. and weave in ends
