Nautilus Poncho Pattern
by Norah Gaughan
Directions for this project in Knitting Nature, shown below. Nature offers many variations of spirals from tree trunks to seashells. This shell inspired poncho is made in a single stockinette-stitch strip that widens as it lengthens, with short-row shaping at the shoulders. Keeping track of the short rows and increases is easy because they are at regular intervals. After the spiraling strip is completed the piece is assembled with basic crochet stitches, placed to further enhance the shell-like spiral structure. The pattern is available in two sizes with identical instructions and just different gauge.
