Alesund Mittens Pattern

Directions for this project in Knitting New Mittens and Gloves, shown below. These multicolored mittens have traditional Norwegian roots. The Art Nouveau-style motif on the top of the hand—definitely a modern touch—is an unexpected counterpoint to the striped palm. The cuff is edged with a few rows of gently flaring stockinette, which, in this robust yarn, is easy to block flat. The main pattern in knit in two colors, and additional colors are added later using duplicate stitch. Shown in Telemark Reindeer Heather (MC), Aubergine (C1), Passion Heather (C2) and Lichen (C3,C4).- Needles:
